VIA- Volunteers in Action

Although there is no guarantee that you will drive while in Uganda, it is always best to be prepared for the possibility.   Here is some information to help you prepare for that.

We ask that you come with your state driver's license AND an international driver's license (obtainable for about $12 from your local AAA or driving agency) and a police and/or insurance record stating you have a safe driving record. These international licenses are good for one year. Within your first weeks here, we will assist you to obtain a Ugandan driver's license. The Ugandan system of obtaining driver's licenses requires your actual state license, while the AAA license smooths the process out for the type of license you will receive. If you have  a document (from your insurance provider and/or state police) that you have a safe driving record, insurace is easier to obtain here.
